PROFILE OF SURYAPRASAD PADALA
FOUNDER & PRESIDENT OF PADALA CHARITABLE TRUST (PCT)

Born in a lower middle class (tailor’s) family on 23rd December 1972 in Yeleswaram Village of East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh, Shri Suryaprasad Padala passed his 10th class with state (Andhra Pradesh) 2nd rank from AP Residential School, Bhupathipalem in the year 1988. He studied his Intermediate (also called +2) in Govt Residential Junior college, Nagarjuna Sagar, Guntur District. He stood state 11th rank there and also secured 483rd rank in state wide Engineering Entrance examination (EAMCET) in 1990. With the timely help in the form of merit scholarship from North South Foundation (www.northsouth.org), he could pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.Tech) from JNTU Kakinada during the period of 1990-1994. In his first attempt, Suryaprasad scored 97% in national level GATE entrance examination for M.Tech course in IITs. He continued his masters from IIT Kharagpur and passed out with distinction in February 1996. He was selected in his first campus interview by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and took up a job with TCS as Assistant Systems Analyst from March 1996. He’s been working as a software consultant since then for last 14 years. He is currently working as freelance IT consultant in Chicago of United States of America (USA).

From his own experience, he realized at his very young age of 29 that lot of rural youth, though talented are unable to pursue higher studies due to lack of proper guidance & financial assistance. He thought of PAYING IT FORWARD (which is the tag line of Padala Charitable Trust)

Immediately after getting a gainful employment, Suryaprasad founded & registered Padala Charitable Trust (PCT) in the year 2002 with a view to help the poor & merit students and also to implement community development programmes in and around Yeleswaram village. Thereafter, PCT started providing scholarships to poor & merit students from East Godavari district and from few other districts as well. Year after year, the PCT scholars are increasing in number and as of July 2010 the cash outflow from PCT towards the total of 383 scholarships has crossed Rs 14.3 lakhs. PCT also undertakes community development programmes like helping with school buildings, conducting talent tests, eye camps etc. PCT also lends helping hand to other NGOs like Gavarasana Foundation of Gollaprolu (Safe Drinking Water Plant), Rama Krishna Math of Rajahmundry (English learning programme for rural youth in and around Rajahmundry), Bharathi Theertha Trust of Vizianagaram (Water & sanitation project) & Sankurathri Foundation of Kakinada (School Education & Vocational Training for rural poor in and around Kothuru)

Suryaprasad & PCT are fortunate to have a dedicated team of volunteers in Yeleswaram to look after the trust’s activities. Suryaprasad and PCT are now well known not only in East Godavari of A.P but also in other NGOs run by several NRIs in USA.

Suryaprasad is a very humble, soft spoken and honest to the core. He is married to Smt Varalakshmi in February 2003 and the couple has been blessed with two daughters Sravya (3.5 yrs) and Sravanthi (8 months). Surya always mentions that his heart is with PCT and he will continue to work harder to serve as many needy as possible. He emphasizes the importance of PAYING IT FORWARD in every interaction he has with the students. He is for sure a true source of inspiration.
